St. Teresa Church

Ministries

Ministries Stained Glass
Our ministries provide services to St. Teresa's parish, our neighborhood, and the larger community.

Liturgical Ministries form the nucleus of our spiritual life. Pastoral Ministries serve our more earthly needs.

Liturgical Ministries

The goal of our liturgical ministries is to provide the parish with vital liturgies that enable the members of St. Teresa's community to act as the body of Christ in our world. With the exception of the Liturgy Committee, these ministries do not meet regularly as a group. Once or twice a year they are invited to attend a liturgy workshop to enhance their skills. Ministers are generally scheduled every four to six weeks.

Liturgy Committee

Members of this ministry meet two evenings a month from September through May. Members are responsible for planning our special liturgies (e.g. Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter).

Ministry of the Word

Members of this ministry are our Lectors. They proclaim the Word at Mass. Members are assigned to lector at the Mass they normally attend.

Eucharistic Ministry

Members of this ministry are Bread and Cup Ministers. They are assigned to assist with communion at the Mass they normally attend.

Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick

On the first Sunday of each month following the 10 a.m. Mass, the members of this ministry bring communion and share the Word with members of our parish who are homebound.

Hospitality Ministry

It is the responsibility of the Hospitality Ministers to make sure that everyone feels welcome in our parish and our liturgies. The members of this ministry are the greeters who meet you at the front door and the ushers who help you find a seat. Members are assigned to assist at a Mass they normally attend.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry ministers to the St. Teresa of Avila assembly by providing music for our liturgies and training for members of our ensembles.
The Parish Choir is open to all people ages 14 and up! This ensemble participates regularly at 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. The primary ministerial role of the choir is to sing various parts of the Mass in dialogue or in alternation with the rest of the assembly.
Rehearsal schedule: Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., and Sundays before Mass starting at 9:30 a.m.
There are many opportunities for skilled instrumental and vocal musicians to participate on an as-needed basis.

Pastoral Ministries

The goal of our pastoral ministries is to work for social justice and peace, foster community, and care for others. There are nine social ministries.

Grief Care Ministry

Members of this ministry help our parishioners faced with a death in the family. At the time of death, if the family wishes, one minister is assigned to help them prepare the funeral services. For at least a year after the death, the minister stays in contact with the family to help them through the grief process. These ministers meet quarterly to deepen their skills for this ministry.

Health Ministry

Greeting Card to the Sick

Each month members of this ministry send cards and build relationships with the homebound of our parish.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Our parish has a strong commitment to the St. Vincent de Paul Society; by virtue of our strong financial support we are all participants in this ministry. The members meet monthly. This ministry responds to the material needs of the poor in our neighborhood.

Sandwich Committee

The members of this ministry come together twice a month to make sandwiches which are distributed to the needy at a St. Vincent de Paul facility.

Volunteers to Caregivers

The members of this ministry have volunteered to be on call day and night to come to the assistance of caregivers and others when an unforeseen need arises.

Hospitality After Mass

This ministry serves donuts and coffee each Sunday to provide those attending 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Mass with the opportunity to meet their neighbors following the services.

Seniors Ministry

The members of this ministry range in age from 55 to 100. They meet monthly to enjoy companionship and build community.

Social Committee

The members of this ministry help to build community by planning social activities. They meet monthly and as needed for social events.

JustFaith Group

JustFaith at St. Teresa's Parish grew out of the desire of a number of people to continue the legacy of Justice in our parish. Just Faith is a conversion based process that seeks to provide a context in which participants can grow in their commitment to be about the care of the vulnerable, and to become advocates for Justice. Just Faith is an extended education program employing lecture, books and videos, discussion, prayer, retreats and other hands on experiences. The intent is to provide a tapestry of learning opportunities that emphasize the remarkable justice tradition of the Church. Participants are afforded the privilege of becoming community and sharing a journey of faith and compassion that is both life-giving and challenging.

African AIDS Orphans' Ministry

This ministry is a collaboration between St. Teresa's parish and The St. Terese Sisters of Tanzania in support of their AIDS Orphans Ministry. Parishioners of St. Teresa's contribute to our Sponsor a Child program, where for $20 a month a donor can sponsor the education of an orphaned child for a year. They exchange letters with the child, through the Sisters in Tanzania, and develop a real relationship with that child.

Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) Affiliate

Is one of over two hundred international affiliates. They coordinate the Parish Community's response to the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church by offering support to the victims/survivors, supporting priests-of-integrity who remain faithful shepherds of the community, and advocating for accountability and transparency in the structures and activities of the Church.
